Homophones

I’ve heard it said that English is one of the hardest languages to learn. I don’t know if that’s true or not, but I do know there are a lot of words people struggle with. Many of them are words that sound the same but are spelled differently, otherwise known as homophones. For example, do you know the difference between “your” and “you’re”? They sound the same when you’re speaking, but it’s important to know the difference when you’re writing your online dating profile, your totally awesome new meme, or your presentation at work. See what I did there? Speaking of “there”, that’s another homophone. Like this: They’re going there to visit their relatives.

The examples mentioned above are some words that are very commonly mixed up. However, they are far from the only ones that give people trouble. What words do you struggle with? Leave a comment letting me know which words or grammar rules you would like to see discussed in future posts.
